The MCM Lab is equipped with an automated system for digital image correlation (DIC) used to monitor the surface deformations. Biomechanical testing is also conducted, e.g. tissue engineering (soft and hard), stents and other testing support for bio-medical and structural applications.
Facilities/equipment/devices:
The MCM Lab includes a:
1) loading frame capable of load application (up to 100 kN) with a range of load cells from 10N all the way to 100kN
2) Digital Image Correlation (DIC) optical measurement technique for surface strain field (Non-contact Full-Field Deformations Acquisition) 3) Computer cluster for large scale simulations
Technologies and/or services:
1) Mechanical characterization of composite materials (Standard and non-standard tests)
2) Stress and failure analysis of composite materials and structures
3) Mechanical characterizations of soft tissue and medical constructs
Capabilities and specific areas of expertise:
1) Composite materials and structures; 2) Failure analysis; 3) Nonlinear analysis; 4) Failure and damage simulations; 5) Fluid-structure interactions
In house and commercial code for failure simulations in composite structures;
Standard and non-standard mechanical testing of composite materials
