Objective/function

• The Parasitology Laboratory is at the forefront of the battle against insects, mites and ticks, which can cause allergies, damage to the skin, and act as vectors of pathogenic micro-organisms. By combining a broad range of approaches, from those applicable by the community to advanced laboratory research, it is making major strides in the alleviation of the suffering and damage these diseases cause

Research provided

• The Parasitology Laboratory provides research on the following subjects
• Human lice: The laboratory maintains a colony of human lice to test methods for the control of head lice infestations. We also conduct clinical trials with pediculicides
• Maggot debridement therapy
• House dust mites: We maintain a colony of dust mites, the main source of house dust allergies, to research chemical and physical methods of control
• Ticks and tick-borne diseases
• Fleas and flea-borne diseases
• Demodex mites and demodicosis
• West Nile fever
• Hirudotherapy

Client record

• Commercial clients include Phoenix Lab, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Rafa and Sano of Israel to develop anti-louse products and louse repellents
• The Parasitology Laboratory performs collaborative research with scientists from Israel, Korea, UK, Australia, USA, and Turkey
