Research Background

• Research in the dermatology department focuses on the pathogenesis of various skin conditions and research for new treatments. Specific research includes:
• The use of antibiotics in dogs with pyoderma and otitis externa in the light of increased antibiotic resistance
• The pathogenesis and management of canine otitis externa
• Wound healing

Research Capabilities

• At the veterinary hospital, veterinary dermatology research is carried out in two major areas –
• Clinical research to gain greater understanding of animal skin disorders
• Phase III clinical trials for companies developing veterinary diagnostics and medications
• The hospital has permission to work with and provides access to laboratory animals.

Researcher and Research Interests

• Dr. Gila Zur, DVM, MSc., DipECVD, Head of Dermatology Department, is internationally recognised as a as a boards certified dermatologist. Dr Zur has more than 20 years' experience and is the only veterinary dermatologist certified by the European College of Veterinary Dermatology in Israel. She is recognised as having the greatest knowledge in this field in Israel.
• Dr. Ronnie Kaufmann, DVM, is in a dermatology residency program of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology and will also become an ECVD diplomate.
