Objective/function
-
The laboratory is active in the study and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI)
Research provided
-
Study of pathophysiology and basic mechanisms of neuroprotection and repair; development of potential novel therapeutic agents and strategies
-
Testing compounds developed by others for their potential neuroprotective effect in a well-established model of traumatic brain injury in mice
Advantages
-
The animal model developed and widely studied in our lab for focal TBI serves as a platform for pre-clinical testing of potential drugs. We have a battery of neurobehavioral, motor and cognitive tests to assess the functional outcome after TBI and the effects of therapeutic intervention or genetic manipulations (e.g. transgenic o knockout mice)
Client record
-
Performed assessments of drugs for Pharmos, SK&B, Serono, Teva, and Bayer
Available equipment
-
Device to produce closed head injury
-
Set-up for evaluation of cognitive (object recognition test), behavioral (forced swimming test), and motor functions
