Ongoing research with hybrids being tested in commercial greenhouses |
Highlights
-
Breeding program initiated in 2004 has produced thousand of crosses involving multiple commercial hybrids as well as crosses with E. grandiflorum accessions and wild E. exaltatum.
-
Today there are more than 500 different phenotyped lines as well as genotypes that were selected to possess unique characteristics not found in modern commercial varieties.
-
In 2010, 84 hybrids were produced from fixed parental lines and are presently being evaluated for a wide range of phenotypic traits.
-
Six selected hybrids were tested during the last growing season in a Ministry of Agriculture hybrids trial.
-
In the last growing season more than 150 new hybrids were produced and are being tested in three different commercial greenhouses.
Our Innovation
New varieties of Lisianthus with unique characteristics not found in modern commercial varieties such as sharp edge petals, giant flowers, unique color configuration, early flowering, intense color, vigor, high yield.
Development Milestones
-
Seeking funding for ongoing research and commercial cooperation.
The Opportunity
-
Lisianthus is one of the top ten cut flowers in the United States with over 10,000 flowers (1,000 Stems) being grown and sold annually.
